Assembly Bill 5 (Gonzalez) continues to create concern among many businesses and individuals about how to comply with this new law. To help clarify what AB 5 means to employers, employees, and independent contractors throughout the state, the Employment Development Department (EDD) will be hosting a continuous AB 5/ABC Test – Employment Status Seminar series. There are roughly 80 seminars over the remainder of the year to discuss the impacts of the ABC Test and how to classify a worker.
Knowing whether your business is subject to the Dynamex ABC Test is not entirely clear for business owners, given the numerous exemptions that were written into AB 5. This year we have seen 33 pieces of legislation that follow-up on last year’s effort to classify workers. While we do not know which, if any, of those follow-up bills will pass, we all need to know if we are subject to the ABC Test and how to ensure we comply with this law.
The EDD-hosted seminars are likely to be valuable in figuring out if you and your business are subject to the ABC Test. There is still plenty of availability for most of the seminars set for March. Here are the locations and dates for those:
