On Tuesday March 5, members of the swimming pool and spa industry met with officials from Southern CA Edison (SCE) to discuss their 2019 swimming pool pump rebate program. As we previously reported, the 2019 SCE swimming pool pump rebate program is currently limited to brick and mortar retailers who sign a participation contract with SCE, thereby excluding the rest of the industry from participating. The industry members excluded from participation is a large group, including service and repair technicians, swimming pool builders, plastering contractors and others who perform pump replacements in conjunction with a remodel job.
We had a productive meeting learning how SCE came to adopt this new program and what their goals are for the rebate program. We expressed concerns with the program and the exclusion of such a large portion of our industry, with many participating for several years. As an example, the Foundation for Pool & Spa Industry Education, FPSIE, has trained approximately 900 industry members through their CAEI program in the SCE service area. SCE listened to the concerns and recommended solutions were proposed and discussed. SCE will review the proposed solutions presented and will deliberate on how to modify the program to include additional industry members.
Thanks to the industry coalition that participated in the meeting: Terry Snow and Bob Nichols from IPSSA, Aaron Grimes and Ron Newman from Pentair, Mike Giddens from Zodiac, Fred Manno from Hayward, Robert Rankin from PoolCorp, and Jerry Wallace CPSA Board Chairman. CPSA is proud to have participated in this coalition and thanks the CPSA board members present – Jerry, Terry, Fred, and Robert, who are committed to the members of CPSA and the overall industry.
CPSA will provide further updates on the SCE pool pump rebate program as the information is available.
